The Six Steps to Full Admission:
adult education

1.  Online Application and Technology Assessment Form

This form serves as your initial application.  There is no immediate charge for submitting the online form.  The form registers that you have an interest in the RANA program.

Once we receive your application form, we will contact you by telephone within a week and send out a packet of information.  When we contact you, we'll be able to answer any questions that you may have, and we'll start the process of completing the remaining admissions steps.

2.  Free Application for Federal Student Aid

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) must be completed to apply for financial aid from Federal, State, and APU.  You can complete this application online (www.fafsa.ed.gov).

In order to complete the FAFSA, you will need to include information from your tax return.  And, you will need to enter a "school code" to direct your results to APU.  The school code for APU is:  001061.

3.  Official Transcripts

To be fully-admitted, we will need to receive official transcripts from all universities and postsecondary schools that you have previously attended.

If you have less than 32 university-level credits, we will also need an official high school transcript or GED.

A transcript is "official" only when it is mailed directly from one institution to another in a closed, sealed envelope.  You will need to request transcripts from your previous institutions, and have them sent to:

     Alaska Pacific University
     4101 University Drive
     Anchorage, AK 99508-9975

4.  $25 Application Fee

Before you can be fully-admitted, you will need to submit a $25 application fee.  This fee is assessed to cover the processing of your application, including any transfer credit evaluation.

You can call the APU Admissions Office toll free, 1.800.252.7528, and use Visa, Mastercard, or Discover.  Or you can send a check, written out to "Alaska Pacific University," mailed to the RANA office.

5.  Statement of Goals

You will need to compose a 1-2 page statement about your goals.  We ask you to describe what your goals will be as a RANA student, what career goals you have, and why you would be a good candidate for RANA.

6.  Interview

Once you have completed all of the preceding steps, we will arrange an appointment for you to have an interview (either in person or by telephone) with RANA's Associate Director.  The interview is meant to go over programmatic requirements.  As well, we try to make sure that our program is a good match for your needs.

The Decision Process

Once all six admission requirements are fulfilled, the decision process takes up to two weeks.  During that time, all of your admissions materials are considered, and your transcripts are evaluated by APU staff and faculty to determine how your previous coursework equates to APU courses.

We stay in touch with you throughout the entire admissions process to let you know what has been received and what are the next steps.

For "priority admission," which includes consideration for APU scholarships, the admissions process needs to be completed at least one month before you start coursework.
