As the need for a skilled workforce in Alaska increases, so has the demand for professional trainers!
• There is high demand for professionals who are trained in such fields as telecommunications, banking, construction, medical services, and mechanics; and a high demand for professionals who can teach these skills to others.
• To meet this demand, the RANA Program and the Alaska Vocational Technical Center (AVTEC) have formed a partnership to offer an AA in Career and Technical Education.
The AA in Career and Technical Education is specifically designed for individuals who seek to become vocational educators.
Graduates of this degree program will be prepared to serve as program coordinators and technical educators for regional vocational centers across Alaska.
This program is delivered via distance education, with brief residencies at Anchorage or Seward. It is coordinated through AVTEC's "Connected Ed" initiatives and the RANA Distance Education Program of APU.
The AA involves both general university requirements and major courses. Credit from this program can be used to move toward a BA at APU or other accredited universities.
Major courses focus on topics such as: • foundations of career and technical education • instructional technology • methods of instruction • "train the trainer" techniques • project management • workplace safety
Students can earn the AA while living anywhere in Alaska.
